Opening Day of the gun hunting season on Nov. 17 yielded more than just whitetail deer trophies. In the Town of Pelican, the Community Club held its annual Hunters Dinner that evening and raised $500 for the Kindness for Kids program, and another $500 for the Rhinelander Area Food Pantry.

Kindness for Kids buys new Christmas presents for children whose families are struggling. The presents are delivered by Robert Dionne and Gordon Edington before Christmas.

The 13th annual Toy Drive is in progress. Donations of new toys can be deposited in the camouflage boxes located in Rhinelander at Trig's, Wal-Mart and the Dollar General Store, and at the studios of WJFW TV-12 and WHDG, as well as the Beauty Resort in Eagle River and the Dollar General Store in Tomahawk.
